Our Editorial Policy
We believe dream interpretation should spark self-reflection, not dictate meaning. Here is how we approach the content we create.
Our Approach
Dream meanings are prompts for reflection, not facts.
When we write about what a dream symbol might mean, we are not telling you what your dream definitively means. We are offering possible interpretations to help you explore your own mind.
Your personal context, emotions, and life circumstances are the most important factors in understanding your dreams. A snake in your dream might represent transformation for one person and anxiety for another. Both interpretations can be valid.
We present multiple perspectives because no single framework has a monopoly on dream interpretation. Our goal is to give you tools for self-discovery, not answers to memorize.
Content Methodology
Research-Based
We reference established psychology, sleep science, and academic research on dreams. When discussing theories, we cite the frameworks they come from.
Multiple Perspectives
We explore Jungian, Freudian, spiritual, cultural, and modern interpretations. Different frameworks resonate with different people.
Personal Context First
We always emphasize that your personal life circumstances, emotions, and associations matter most when interpreting dreams.
Our Sources
Academic Research on Sleep and Dreams
We draw from peer-reviewed studies on REM sleep, memory consolidation, and the neuroscience of dreaming. This grounds our content in scientific understanding.
Established Psychological Frameworks
The works of Carl Jung, Sigmund Freud, Calvin Hall, and other dream researchers inform our interpretations. We clearly attribute ideas to their originators.
User Patterns from DreamTap Journals
Anonymized and aggregated patterns from DreamTap users help us understand which dreams are most common and what interpretations resonate with real dreamers.
Cultural and Spiritual Traditions
We respectfully explore how different cultures and spiritual traditions have interpreted dreams throughout history, presenting these as valid perspectives alongside psychological approaches.
Update Policy
Dream research is an evolving field. New studies emerge, perspectives shift, and our understanding deepens over time.
We regularly review and update our content to ensure it reflects current understanding. When we make significant updates to an article, we note the update date so you know the content is current.
If you notice something that seems outdated or would like to suggest an improvement, we welcome feedback at support@dreamtap.app.

The Team

Thomas Geelens
Founder, DreamTap
I'm not a dream expert—just someone who has spent years exploring my own dreams through Jungian methods. Shadow work, symbolic interpretation, and understanding the unconscious have been part of my personal growth journey. I built DreamTap to solve my own problem.
Why I Built This
I kept waking up with fragments of vivid dreams, full of symbols worth exploring. But by the time I'd grab my phone and type it out, half the dream was already gone. I wanted something that wouldn't require me to fully wake up—just capture the essence, quickly, in the dark.
And the next morning? I wanted thoughtful analysis waiting for me. Not fortune-telling, but prompts for reflection. Multiple lenses to look through: Jungian, spiritual, cultural. That's what DreamTap became.
My Approach: All Layers, Not Just Lucid
Many dream apps focus solely on lucid dreaming—controlling your dreams. I take a broader view. Lucid dreaming is interesting, but dreams offer so much more: processing emotions, encountering your shadow, integrating parts of yourself you've ignored, and finding meaning in symbolic imagery.
Inspired by Carl Jung's approach, I believe every dream carries a message worth exploring. DreamTap offers multiple interpretation lenses rather than a single "correct" meaning—because the right interpretation is the one that resonates with you.
